ames Archbald was born in Scotland in 1793 and came to Carbondale in 1828 to work for the new Delaware and Hudson Canal Co.  When he became Superintendent of the DL&W in 1857, he moved to Scranton and built a home along Ridge Row.  He is also noted as the first mayor of the City of Carbondale and the namesake for the town of Archbald.
