Archbald, James |
Archbald,
James
James Archbald was born in Scotland in 1793 and came to
Carbondale in 1828 to work for the new Delaware and Hudson Canal Co. When he became
Superintendent of the DL&W in 1857, he moved to Scranton and built a home along Ridge
Row. He is also noted as the first mayor of the City of Carbondale and the namesake
for the town of Archbald.
Note the pink stone, it was imported from Scotland. The stone wall denoted the custom of setting apart family plots that was popular in the late 1800's.
